When it comes to traveling, we people most likely prefer to go with tourist attractions that are very hyped and popular. While some places manage to do justice to all the overhyping but there are some places that give a very underwhelming response, meaning that it’s not really necessary that all the places that are very popular and hyped will always prove to be satisfying. Sometimes, tourist spots that are much underrated and are unknown to the world prove out to be one of the best places you can visit. Basically, no amount of hype could do justice to them, with how strikingly beautiful the places are.
Kuang Si Falls in northern Laos is one of those beautiful places around the world that deserves no less hype and that too for all the right reasons. Situated in the middle of a thick jungle, it is a three-tiered cascading waterfall located about 29 km to the south of Luang Prabang city. Kuang Si Falls can just be the ultimate destination for you to soak in the goodness of nature at its very best. From pale blue turquoise water to breathtaking scenery, you may be left in awe of this gorgeous place.
If you are planning to visit Kuang Si Falls anytime soon then it would be better if you go through this ultimate guide that will help you to plan your day accordingly.
Swim in the turquoise pools
The best thing about Kuang Si Falls is that in addition to being a gorgeously beautiful place, you can also enjoy the blue waters here by taking a dip into the tiered pools. There are a number of pools in the main area where you can swim but be aware of signs that say no swimming as there are certain areas that don’t allow swimming. And that’s not just it, there are also swinging ropes tied onto the tree which you can use to dive into the pool. All the pools near the picnic area have changing rooms where you can get yourself dressed in swim appropriate clothes or post swimming.
Hike to the top of the falls
Hiking to the top of the falls is something you shouldn’t miss out on. From the top, you will get a very epic view of the waterfall which is definitely worth the entire hike which doesn’t take more than 15 minutes to reach the top. For the most part, all the visitors congregate around the picnic area and lower pool, venturing deeper into the forest for more adventure in the form of hiking. The path for hiking is not too taxing in terms of steepness but you may find some trails a bit tricky. But all in all, it will be all worth it when you get an unobstructed and stunning view of the main waterfalls.
Have a picnic at the lower levels of Kuang si falls
Nothing can be more delightful than having a picnic at a place where you can soak in all the goodness of nature while having some good food with your friends and family. There’s also a restaurant nearby but you can bring your own food and snacks to have a picnic with your bunch of people. You can also find a number of picnic tables on the Kuang Si Fall lower level that is an ideal spot to have a picnic or just to make a quick stop to have snacks and give your feet some rest.
Take a selfie at the footbridge
If there is any spot in this place where you can have a better view of the falls then undoubtedly it’s the wooden footbridge that stretches out the above the lower pools. A powerful 50 m drop of cascading turquoise water tumbling over the yellow stones make for such a breathtaking view. This is the closest you can get to the falls, giving you the perfect opportunity to take some Instagram worthy pictures without a bunch of people in the background.
Stroll through the market of Kuang Si Falls
The local market that is sprung just beside the parking area is the way whenever you enter or exit the waterfall. You can take a quick bite of delicious barbequed meat and also sip some cold beer like Lao or Nam Khong which can easily be found here. There are a couple of small bars along with some shops selling local souvenirs and handicrafts.
